  • We’re officially a ‘Good’ school – Ofsted praises progress at St Peter’s

We’re proud to share the news that St Peter’s Collegiate Academy has been rated 'Good' in all areas by Ofsted following our most recent inspection.

In a report published this week, inspectors recognised the tremendous progress we’ve made as a school, noting that our students “achieve well” thanks to the consistent teaching and carefully planned curriculum we’ve put in place. They commented that our students understand and respond positively to our “high and consistent” expectations for both learning and behaviour.

Inspectors highlighted how we’ve refined our approach to teaching and developed greater consistency across departments. Students spoke positively to inspectors about the improvements they’ve experienced, describing St Peter’s as “a community which supports all pupils and provides a safe environment for us to learn.”

We’re particularly pleased that the report reflects our values of respect, service and aspiration throughout. Ofsted praised our inclusive ethos, noting that St Peter’s is “a school where pupils of all backgrounds are valued and welcome”. Our support for students with special educational needs or disabilities was described as being delivered with “precision”, and our staff were commended for ensuring early and effective support for students who need help to become more fluent readers.

Our work to promote a love of reading is well underway, and we’re delighted that this too was recognised. The inspectors found that we check reading ages carefully on entry and provide targeted support as needed.

The Sixth Form – delivered jointly with another Three Spires Trust school – was also praised. Ofsted commented that our sixth formers “learn the curriculum in greater depth”, are “well guided in their choice of courses”, and receive “useful guidance” to help them access ambitious future destinations. These findings show that our post-16 provision continues to grow in strength and depth.

We’re also proud that Ofsted highlighted our commitment to personal development. Inspectors said we are “rightly proud” of the extensive opportunities available to students – including clubs, trips, and residentials – and they acknowledged our strong levels of attendance.

Our governance and Trust support were both recognised as being strong and ambitious. Inspectors said governors are “very well informed” and offer “supportive challenge”, while the Trust has “worked effectively with leaders to review and develop the school’s work.”

Most importantly, the report confirms that the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth form provision are all now rated Good. This marks a significant step forward for our academy, which was previously judged to require improvement.

We are absolutely delighted with this outcome. It reflects the unwavering dedication of our staff, the positive attitudes of our students, and the strength of our wider school community. As Principal, I’m proud that St Peter’s continues to grow as a place where every student is welcomed, valued and supported to fulfil their God-given potential. As we look ahead to the opening of our brand-new building in January 2026, we remain committed to providing exceptional education in a truly inclusive environment.

Our Chair of Governors, Matt Jevons – who is also a parent here – summed it up perfectly: “This judgment reaffirms our faith in the school’s long-term commitment to excellence.” He also thanked the whole community for helping guide and inspire the next generation.

Emily Verow, CEO of Three Spires Trust, added her thanks to our students, dedicated staff, and the wider community for their commitment and shared ambition, while Councillor Jacqui Coogan, Wolverhampton’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, described our report as “an excellent reflection of the significant progress made.”

We are proud to be part of a city where 97% of schools are now rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted, the highest figure ever recorded – and we’re proud that St Peter’s is playing its part.
